If you use WordPress and use Ultimate Tag Warrior / Google Sitemap Generator plugins (or you want to start to use tags to help categorise your blog) then my tag-addon plugin has been tested with the newest versions of these two plugins as detailed below to automatically add these tags onto your sitemap file.

This plugin automatically adds your tags onto the end of the sitemap.xml file.

is google really that slow at identifying and indexing backlinks?

Whilst on my weekly search engine optimisation (SEO) tasks, I am really getting the feeling that the Google bot is way behind the other search engines bot for identifying and indexing back-links.

I use WebSEO as my SEO tool, and this tool reports on the following back-link data:

  • Altavista: 546 links to my blog
  • Google: 5 links
  • HotBot: was 4349 links but sadly dropped to 28 links (scratching my head on this one…)
  • Yahoo: 1005 links
  • Windows Live (MSN): 4324 links

This blog has been operational since August 2006 so Google has had plenty of time to catch up. Maybe the latest news about all the Google data-centers being full to capacity may have some bearings?

I use Technorati to publish my blog feeds and it today records:

The msnbot does a really quick job at keeping up with all my blog changes, so why not google?

Is the size of Google’s bot too big to fit into its current pair of jeans?…

Google Custom Search on Email Filtering and Email Monitoring

Google has released a new custom search engine (CSE) tool that allows you to search specific websites for specialised content.

The Google Co-op tool has been used to allow you to search websites that contains content about email filtering and email monitoring.

Google to Yahoo-MSN-Live Search Sitemaps Generator - Updated Version

If you have a web site and a blog site, chances are that you have two separate Google sitemaps that list the URLs within each site. I use WordPress for my blog and PHP for my web site. There are many tools/plugins to create these Google sitemaps separately, and this is where the issues lies, and the need for this script.

This means that I have to maintain two Google sitemaps and there is no easy way (i.e. a tool) to generate a proper sitemap for all the pages within my sites. I use the Google Sitemaps plugin for WordPress, but use another sitemap generator for my website.

What the Script does? If you do have two Google sitemaps, then I have enhanced a PHP script to read these two Google sitemaps, extract the URLs and to append/parse them into a file (called urllist.txt) that is used by Yahoo, MSN and Live sitemaps. This helps Yahoo, MSN and Windows Live Search search engine bots to find and index your site pages and aids Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as they can find all your page URLs more easily.

Also included in this version is a text file explaining the use of Yahoo’s ApplicationID and Site Explorer tools to enable you to create an easy process of informing Yahoo every time you update your urllist.txt file. This process involves 3 steps to create a browser short-cut that sends an update notification request informing Yahoo of your new web pages.

Google to Yahoo-MSN-Live Search Sitemaps Creator Tool

If you have a web site and a blog site, chances are you have two seperate Google sitemaps that list the URLs within each site. I use WordPress for my blog and PHP for my web site.

This means that I have to maintain two Google sitemaps and there is no easy way (i.e. a tool) to generate a proper sitemap for all the pages within my sites. I use the Google Sitemaps plugin for WordPress, but use another sitemap generator for my website.

If you do have two Google sitemaps, then I have enhanced a PHP script to read these two Google sitemaps, extract the URLs and to append them into Yahoo and MSN (Live Spaces) sitemaps. Both these files are identical except in name only (yahoo.txt and urllist.txt).

This helps both Yahoo and MSN find their respective sitemaps more easily and aids SEO as they can find your page URLs more easily. This approach also allows for any future changes in the specifications of Yahoo and MSN sitemaps to be easily accomodated.

You are free to download, review and use this PHP script as you so desire.

WordPress Tag Plugin for Ultimate Tag Warrior & Google Sitemaps Integration

I have just published a new plugin to integrate the Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) tags and Google Sitemaps (GS) plugins for WordPress 2.0.4 and 2.0.5.

This plugin extracts the UltimateTagWarrior tags from the WordPress database and appends each of the tags URLs onto the end of the Google sitemap XML file when you execute the Google sitemaps plugin to create a new sitemap.

This plugin saves you having to manually add the URL (into the Google Sitemaps Additional Pages section) each time you use a new Ultimate Tag Warrior tag in a new post.
